So we have just come out of the winter of sickness and my kids seem to health problems that I had never heard of before. I know they are rather minor compared to what other moms deal with, but I still haven't accepted them as something we have to deal with.
I'm talking about Eczema, Asthma, and ear infections.
A pediatrician has told us that asthma has been on the rise all over the world, along with childhood obesity. About 3 out of 5 friends that we know have eczema, and I had never even heard of it before my kid had it.
There hardly seems to be any options except drugs, but that can be so hard on the system. Really, who wants their kids inhaling steroids every day for breathing treatments, or smearing hydro cortisone cream on baby's soft skin, or taking antibiotic after antibiotic to keep those ears clear.
To top it off, we seem to get food advice from everyone. It is worse than when I was pregnant. Much worse, because now I worry that maybe it was something that I have done, or didn't do that has caused this.
Maybe it is environmental, and if we moved like my mom wants, then we would get better.
Maybe I didn't take the right prenatal vitamins and it is a deficiency from the beginning.
Maybe I married someone who has sickness in their genes.
Maybe its because we used plastic containers for food.
Maybe its from eating to much sugar or fats or not enough vegetables
Maybe we live too close to electric wires.
Maybe....
The list goes on and on. Here is the current list of foods that we have been advised to avoid:
Peanuts and Peanut butter
milk
dairy
soy
corn
anything with High fructose corn syrup
or corn starch
potatoes
wheat
barley
rye
anything with excitoxins (I have no idea what this means)
veggie meats
spray oil
honey
lemon juice-bottled
sauerkraut (not a big deal for us)
canned tomatoes
coconut milk
Am I a bad mother because I look at this list and laugh? Can they truly be serious? What on earth would we eat? We are already vegetarian, how much more restrictive of a diet are we supposed to do?
I am still trying to work my mind around all of these ideas.
Have you cut foods out for health reasons? What have you cut, and what were the effects?

ReplyDeleteWow that is incredible!! What are you supposed to eat? I'm sorry to hear your kids are sick. Even "common" illnesses take big effects.
