Saving Money Biggest Loser Style

Rejoice with me for I have lost what was found. Yes, you read that right. My son just turned 11 months, and I just lost the last of his (or my) pregnancy weight. There is still the weight to lose from those years of trying to get pregnant, but that is a different story and a different celebration. Here are some easy ways to lose weight and find some extra money:

1. Drink Water - instead of juice or soda or even extra snacks, try sipping some water to stave off the munchies.
2. Eat Oatmeal for Breakfast - have a filling breakfast early in the morning, to get your metabolism revving. This is also good for your cholesterol.
3. Walk/bike as much as you can - this will burn more calories and less gas
4. Eat those Beans & Rice - replacing meats (even veggie meats) with beans and rice as a complete protein will signifcantly reduce your fats and they are so much cheaper on the grocery budget. After just a couple days, your body gets used to the beans and will thank you later for the extra fiber.
5. An Apple A Day - will keep more than the doctor away. Munching on fruits or vegetables for between meal snacks not only saves you from vending machine prices, but also extra calories.
6. Go Dancing instead of the Movies - Or choosing any activity that gets you moving will save you money (and reduce extra calories) over the cost of a ticket, popcorn, drink and snack.
7. Breastfeed - I know this is not fair to all those without this choice, but I must be honest that it's really probably the #1 reason why I have lost any weight at all, and it is so much cheaper than formula. We are coming to the end of my 1 year goal, so I am trying to incorporate these other habits, to keep the weight off.

What tricks do you use to keep your weight in balance. Share them with us.

  1. I've read thru alot of posts in your blog, but this one is on the front page, so I'm commenting here. I really admire how you have put so much focus on living life and not making a living. An income of $2200 seems impossible to raise a family of 5 on, but you are living proof that it IS possible. I'm a coupon addict, I love saving my family's hard earned money while buying groceries and other household necessities. But I even work full time. Sometimes I'd much rather give up the bigger house, the cars with monthly payments and all of that just so I could be home with my kiddos. Its tough not being able to be there for them 24/7. (They are all in school, ages 8, 11 and 12 now.) But I cant be there during the day to eat lunch with them at school. Or to attend their Valentine's parties and that stuff. :-(

Anyway, I could ramble forever. Just wanted to say, family is worth way more than anyone could ever earn! Keep on posting, you inspire alot of people without even knowing it I betcha!
